Hi Wendy,

Thank you for reaching out and my apologies for the delay. I'm at the Charleston Conference this week. I'll inquire about your questions and will get back to you with more information.

Warmly,
Sarah

You don't often get email from wendy.clark at arbor.edu. Learn why this is important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
To the MCLS MI-SPI administration,

As you may be aware, our former Spring Arbor University Library director, Robbie Bolton, has taken another position and is no longer employed at SAU. With this being the current situation, there are some questions that are on our minds.

  1.
Is the data for Spring Arbor University Library included in the migration to Gold Rush, regardless of our commitment to participate in Gold Rush?
  2.
If we don't join now but decide to participate at a later date, what would that cost and what would be the impact for us?

We are not able to make a commitment to participating in the migration to Gold Rush at this time. Our administration is currently searching for a replacement but hasn't been able to move forward with that process.

Please advise as to the impact of our decision to not move forward with Gold Rush. At this point in time, we cannot commit to the ongoing financial cost.

Thank you for your time and attention,

Wendy Clark
Cataloger
Spring Arbor University Library

Greetings MI-SPI 2.0 Members! Today’s email has two purposes:
One, to provide an overview of the MI-SPI 2.0 Summer Survey findings and two, to share the Steering Committee’s recommendation for MI-SPI libraries to move to Gold Rush. Let’s start with the survey summary.

  *   MI-SPI 2.0 Summer Survey Results

     * Attached is a spreadsheet with the survey data. The tabs show the data by survey section.
     * Also attached the survey questionnaire for reference.

  * MI-SPI 2.0 Summer Survey Summary (also attached)

Based on the findings of the survey, and follow-up discussion at the most recent Steering Committee meeting, the MI-SPI 2.0 Steering Committee recommends the group move retention data to Gold Rush. The cost for making the move is $900 per library for institutions with up to 1 million records. This is a yearly charge. Moving retention records to Gold Rush gives libraries access to the group data for assessment and comparison. While all retention data for each participating library has been saved, there is currently no way for libraries to review, compare and work with the group data. Visit the Gold Rush<https://coalliance.org/about-gold-rush> website for more information. Along with discussing Gold Rush, the option of moving MI-SPI 2.0 from MCLS to the Eastern Academic Scholars’ Trust (EAST) was considered by the Steering Committee. One benefit to moving to Gold Rush is that it would enable MI-SPI to align with EAST<https://eastlibraries.org/> <https://eastlibraries.org/> more seamlessly in the future if that is a direction the group wishes to explore. We can schedule a meeting with EAST staff so the MI-SPI community can learn more about how other statewide/consortial groups work with EAST. For now, the focus is on moving data to Gold Rush.

Please share if your library supports the Steering Committee recommendation that MI-SPI 2.0 libraries move data to Gold Rush. The date for responding is November 22, 2024. Once we know the libraries interested in making the move, a session with Gold Rush will be scheduled.

As you probably know, I am retiring on November 1, 2024. The new MCLS eLicensing and Collection Resources (eLCR) Manager, Sarah Beaubien, will lead MI-SPI moving forward. Sarah’s experience with MI-SPI during her tenure at Grand Valley State University is a great asset and will serve the group well! It has been a pleasure working with MI-SPI 2.0 over the past five years and I wish the group continued success.

Sincerely,
