Time is Running Out to Enter
the Second Annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest
Comstock Park, Mich. - The clock is ticking: today marks three weeks until the deadline to enter the second annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest.
The contest, which includes cash prizes of up to $250 and publication for winners in children, teen and adult categories, is sponsored by Kent District Library, Schuler Books & Music, Pooh's Corner and Capital Area District Libraries in Lansing. Nearly 600 Michigan writers entered in its inaugural year.
The goal this year is to receive 1,000 short story submissions for Write Michigan, said Heidi Nagel, KDL communications manager. "At this time, we still have fewer than 200 stories submitted, but the website visits are nearly double what we experienced over the same period last year. It wouldn't surprise me to have several hundred stories come in very close to the deadline as people tweak and tweak until their stories are perfect."
Online voting to determine Readers' Choice winners runs January 6 - 31, and a panel of judges will determine the recipient of the Judges' Choice award.
Winners will be honored during an awards ceremony at the Kentwood (Richard L. Root) KDL branch at 2:00 PM on March 22, 2014. The awards ceremony will feature a keynote address by author Kentwood native Kristina Riggle. Her fifth novel, The Whole Golden World, is published by HarperCollins this month. Riggle will also write the foreword to the 2014 Write Michigan Anthology of winning stories, to be published by Schuler Books & Music in a Chapbook Press book.
