Due to the retirement of the current director, the Board of Trustees of the
Mason County District Library is inviting applications for the position of
Director.  The Mason County District Library includes facilities in
Ludington (expanded and remodeled in 2012) and Scottville (expanded and
remodeled in 2002)  and serves a population of over 28,000 with a budget of
over $900,000 and a staff of five (5) full-time and thirty-one (31)
part-time employees.  As a district library, the Library is an autonomous
governmental unit that has a dedicated millage in perpetuity.  The Library
system enjoys strong community support and prides itself on providing
excellent customer service through its professional, friendly staff.



Mason County is located in beautiful west Michigan, with miles of Lake
Michigan shoreline and outstanding recreational facilities. It is the kind

The position requires a Masters degree in library science or library and
information science from a program accredited by the American Library
Association and a* *minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible
experience post-degree in a professional public library position, of which
at least two (2) years have been in a position of administration and
supervision in a public library.

The successful candidate will* *be a community-oriented individual who
values the opportunity to interact with the public as a hands-on director;
has excellent personnel management skills; is flexible and energetic; has
strong communication skills and is comfortable with representing the
library in the community; has a comprehensive understanding of library
finances and budgeting; is knowledgeable regarding current technology and
its use in public libraries;  and has an overall understanding of current

*Salary*: in the low *$60s*, benefit package includes health insurance (20%
employee contribution required) and pension plan.
