The libraries I am associated with also deal with self-published books on a case-by-case basis.  Sometimes you will find some real gems!

We look at these on a case by case basis.  If they are worthy and/or have local significance, that means that we are more likely to add them.  The previous statement applies to donated items.  We don't usually BUY self-published items.  We pretty much use the same selection criteria as we would for something that we purchase, but we tend to be a little less critical if the book has true local siginificance.  Hope this helps.
