[Michlib-l] Guidelines on donation amounts for naming rights

I would say that some libraries are named after people for reasons other
than direct monetary donation. Sometimes history or events can be a
factor when considering a name.

Our libraries were named after the Kennedy children because the libraries
were on the eve of opening when the assassination of JFK occurred. So moved
was the Dearborn Heights City Council that at the next meeting they passed
a resolution to name our libraries as they did, and the name has stuck ever
since.

We have never asked for, nor gotten a dime for the name. I always thought
it was rather interesting that our libraries were named after children.

We do have a "wall of honor" plaque recently put up to honor long time
volunteers and donors to our libraries. Donations over $3,000, 2,500
volunteer hours, or some outstanding act of service gets your name up for
consideration by the Library Advisory Board.
