Dear library colleagues,
we invite you, your colleagues, and
community members to attend the second of the Pinckney Community Public
Library's 4-part genealogy workshop series entitled: "A Bridge to the
Past". (This workshop series is sponsored by the Friends of the Pinckney
Library.) The series is once-a-month on Saturday at 10:30 am.
Refreshments will be served. We ask that attendees call the library in
advance to register so that we have a good count for the handouts that
will be shared during each workshop.
This Saturday, April 4th's
session topic is: "USING THE GENEALOGYBANK DATABASE" -- Find out how you
can use the library's newest database subscription to search historical
newspapers. You'll never know what you'll find -- births, deaths,
marriages, criminal activity! Newspapers are one of the best places to
research family events and fill in the details of your ancestors' lives.
Note: The Pinckney Library does not restrict by residency. All
attendees for this Saturday's workshop will be given remote access to
the library's subscription to the GenealogyBank database.
Upcoming
session topics are as follows:
* Saturday, May 3, 2014 at
10:30am--WHAT ARE GENEALOGY WEBINARS?: Researching your family history
means you'll probably be exploring areas of the country or world you
weren't expecting. Webinars are a great tool for learning more about
your genealogy without having to leave your home. We will go over the
basics on how to find and participate in them.
* Saturday, June 14,
2014 at 10:30am--SEEKINGMICHIGAN.ORG: Find out more about your Michigan
ancestors by using the collections available from the Library of
Michigan and the Archives of Michigan. Collections include death
certificates from 1897-1920, state census records from 1884-1894, plat
maps and Civil War records. This is a not-to-be missed resource!
Attendees are encouraged to bring any questions or "brick walls" you
have encountered in your research to each session. There will be time
for help with your personal quest to uncover your family history.
