Director     Herrick District Library Holland (MI)
Great community, great facilities, great Board of Trustees, and great staff - all this library needs is a great director to lead its continued growth and success!  Due to retirement, the Board of Trustees of the Herrick (Holland, MI) District Library is seeking an energetic leader with a strong commitment to public library service and the skills necessary to direct this well-used library.
The Library is a district library with an independent Board of Trustees and dedicated funding.  The Library's staff of 63 serve over 100,000 residents in a main library facility and one branch.  An annual operating budget of nearly $5 million, largely from local tax support, is evidence of the community's respect and support for the Library.  The Library also enjoys a healthy endowment fund.
Dubbed by Forbes Magazine (April, 2013) as "One of America's Prettiest Towns", Holland is located in southwest Michigan near the shores of Lake Michigan and offers beautiful beaches, a lively arts scene, and a vibrant downtown area. Home to Hope College and campuses of Davenport University and Grand Valley State University, Holland is a growing community with a diversity of cultures. The area's traditional values contributed to its recent recognition as "the most secure mid-size city in America" by Farmers Insurance.

Position requirements:  Masters' degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association; a minimum of six (6) years of post-degree employment in a public library, of which at least four (4) years have been in a management/supervisory position.

The Director will serve as an advocate for the Library in the community and the state. The successful candidate must have an excellent track record in financial management, outstanding verbal and written communication skills, successful millage or levy campaign experience, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, library board, community leaders, public officials, and leaders of educational and civic organizations. In addition, a thorough understanding of library technologies and their applications and management experience within a union environment are essential.  Demonstrated leadership abilities, exhibited through community, state and/or national involvement, is expected.

A second graduate degree (or significant coursework) in business or public administration is desirable.

Experience in a district library is a plus.

Compensation: From mid-$80,000s, dependent on qualifications and experience; excellent benefit package.
