Due to the retirement of the current Director, the Board of Trustees of
the Allegan (MI) District Library seeks a passionate advocate of public
library service to become the Library's next Director.The Allegan
District Library is an independent governing unit, serving a population
of over 17,000 with an operating budget of $620,000 and a staff of 13 (3
with MLIS degree).The original Carnegie building has been extensively
remodeled and expanded and will proudly celebrate its 100^th anniversary
in 2014.
Allegan, located in southwest Michigan, is a charming community with an
unbeatable combination of historic small-town atmosphere and
community-minded approach to life. The riverfront boardwalk, historic
downtown and homes, and friendly citizens give Allegan its small town
ambiance.Comfortable driving distance to Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and

*The position**requires* a Masters degree in library science or library
and information science from a program accredited by the American
Library Association *and *a**minimum of four (4) years post-degree
experience in a professional public library position, of which at least
two (2) years have been in a position of administration and supervision
in a public library.
*The successful candidate will *havea thorough knowledge of all facets
of public library service; an enthusiasm for and understanding of
small-town librarianship; the ability to manage and prioritize multiple
projects; excellent communications skills; strong financial management
abilities; the ability to work effectively with other governmental
agencies, civic and community groups, and the general public; and the
ability to address challenges in a collaborative and creative manner.
Experience in a district library setting is desirable and knowledge of
Michigan library law would be a plus.
