[Michlib-l] African American History programs at Westland

The Westland Public Library is proud to announce two family-oriented African American History programs during the month of February.

February 1st: 2 p.m. Bichini Bia Congo Drum & Dance Group
Get your feet moving and your hands clapping with this high-energy musical program designed especially for kids. Bichini Bia Congo (http://class-act.com/acts/bichinibiacongo/) is an authentic Congolese drum and dance company that introduces audiences to Congolese tradition and culture through music, song and dance to promote African cultural awareness and celebrate the connections between Africa and the world's people, culture and history.

February 8th: 2 p.m. Rosie Chapman, The Spirit of Rosa Parks
Rosie Chapman is not only a dynamic storyteller but also a mixed media artist, playwright, drama coach, and motivational speaker. As a storyteller, she has performed all over the USA, Australia, Africa, Scotland and Germany. Her presentation will be about Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights Movement. She will bring Parks to life and describe her importance as an African American civil rights activist, whom the U.S. Congress later called "the first lady of civil rights", and "the mother of the freedom movement". This is a family friendly event filled with audience participation. Ages 7-99 will enjoy this presentation!
