Collection Development Librarian

The Collection Development Librarian provides leadership and work related
to the selection, processing, evaluation, and assessment of library
resources; assists in the development and implementation of collection
development policies and procedures; and perform liaison duties as
assigned. This is a full-time, eight-month, tenure-track position at either
the assistant or associate professor level, depending upon experience and
qualifications. This position is expected to work very closely with the
Associate Dean, who has administrative oversight of collections, as well as
to collaborate with other coordinators and subject liaison librarians. The
Collection Development Librarian will also contribute to the profession
through professional service and scholarly activities, and will participate
in faculty governance activities within the Library and University.

Specific Responsibilities
* Provide leadership for and participate in all collection services
activities including the selection, negotiation, licensing, assessment,
de-selection, and dispersal of resources and collections.
* Lead the development and review of collection development policies and
funding models, and monitor their effectiveness.
* Co-lead the Library’s Liaison meetings with the Coordinator of
Instruction in order to coordinate the work of subject liaison librarians
in their efforts to develop collections for academic priorities and
curricula.
* Manage and monitor the Library’s collections budget.
* Analyze and report on the funding, use, and assessment of library
resources; prepare collection assessments for new program proposals and
accreditation reports; analyze collection key indicators and pertinent
statistical data, and prepare reports as needed.
* Oversee the management of serials in print and electronic formats.
* Coordinate and perform work related to the development and management of
the general collection, including making recommendations on the
arrangement, location, and accessibility of library resources.
* Provide training to subject liaison librarians in the use of vendors’
collection management systems.
* Work with the Digital Assets Librarian, Collections Support Services
(CSS) staff, and others to facilitate users’ seamless access to
collections.
* Represent the university at statewide and regional consortia related to
collection development.
* Serve as subject liaison to one or more academic departments, providing
user instruction and research support as part of the Library’s instruction
program.
* Pursue active publication and research agenda in accordance with the
Library and University’s promotion, tenure, and post-tenure review
guidelines.


Qualifications
Required
* MLS from an ALA-accredited library and information science program.
* Minimum of two years of professional experience working in collection
development, e-resource management, and/or acquisitions services in an
academic library.
* Demonstrated knowledge of collection development and management
strategies, collection evaluation and assessment techniques, and
negotiation and licensing issues related to electronic resources.
* Familiarity with integrated library systems and/or collection management
systems.
* Potential to meet Library’s requirements for promotion and tenure, which
require research, publication and professional service.
* Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse colleagues,
faculty and students.

Preferred:
* Experience in collection evaluation and assessment, including data
collection and analysis.
* Experience in negotiating and acquiring electronic resources.
* Experience with integrated library system acquisitions modules,
electronic resource management systems, and vendor services.
* Experience with budget projections and allocations, and development of
collection development-related reports.
* Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in scholarly communication and
content management.
* Experience with academic library liaison services and library
instruction.


Rank, salary, benefits:
This is a tenure-track, eight-month, bargaining-unit faculty appointment.
Attainment of tenure is dependent upon job performance, scholarship, and
service. Appointment may be made at the Assistant Professor or Associate
Professor level; professional rank and salary will be determined by
credentials and experience. Oakland University offers excellent fringe
