A new collection of 100 essential architecture books has been organized
and financed by the Rae Dumke Fund of the Michigan Architectural Foundation
(MAF), whose mission is to promote architecture to the public. Ms. Rae
Dumke is the former Executive Director of MAF, AIA Michigan (American
Institute of Architects Michigan), and AIA Detroit. She currently serves on
the MAF Board of Trustees. Upon her retirement, an endowment was
established in Ms. Dumke’s name through contributions to MAF.
The Rae Dumke Collection of 100 essential architecture books was developed
by a MAF committee. The members of this committee were Alan Cobb, Albert
Kahn Associates; Rae Dumke, Honorary AIA; Doug Koschik, Baldwin Library;
Jeffrey Ryntz, Saroki Architecture; Michelle Saroki, Saroki Architecture;
and Stephen Smith, TMP Architecture. Titles were suggested by architects
and other people around the country. Through an endowment fund set up with
the Baldwin Public Library Trust, this collection was purchased for and
will be housed at Baldwin, with the understanding that the books will be
available not only to Baldwin cardholders, but also nationwide through
interlibrary loan. The collection will be updated on a regular basis. You
can find out more about the collection at:

The inaugural event of this collection will take place at the Library. The
event begins at 5 p.m. on June 11. The formal program will begin at 6 p.m.
and will feature Stephen Vogel, FAIA, AIA National Director, AIA Michigan
Regional Director, and Professor and Past Dean for the School of
Architecture at University of Detroit-Mercy. The public is welcome; please
RSVP to evelyn at aiami.com or 313-965-4100.
