The Bacon Memorial District Library (BMDL) Board of Trustees seeks a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative leader to develop and manage the Class IV district library serving the waterfront community of Wyandotte MI.
The Library Director is responsible for the operational management and supervision of all areas and aspects of the Bacon Memorial District Library and reports to the Board of Trustees.
The director is in charge of a bustling library serving a population of 26,000 and used by residents of neighboring communities. The Library has strong youth and adult programming, and local history collections as core elements. The active Friends group contributes funds for programs and other needed items.
Full time: 40 hours per week
Benefits: health insurance, term life insurance, leave days and vacation, employer contribution to a 457B annuity plan. Paid ALA membership and MLA membership.
Master's degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an ALA accredited college is required.
5 years progressively responsible library experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory and/or administrative position preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
Sense of humor and flexibility are essential.
Experience with automated systems and software; bookkeeping and budgeting; and facility management.
Possess a strong background in existing and emerging technology.
Familiarity with library trends.
Actively participates within state, regional and national library associations.
Valid driver’s license needed to attend meetings at consortia level and beyond.
