FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - June 18, 2014

Grand Valley State University Libraries is excited to announce that the keynote speaker for the Michigan Instruction Exchange (MIX) 2014 is Merinda Kaye Hensley.

Ms. Hensley is the Instructional Services Librarian and an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is also the co-coordinator of the Scholarly Commons, a library unit that serves the emerging research and technology needs of scholars in data services, digital humanities, digitization, and scholarly communication. She is serving as vice chair (soon to be chair) of ACRL's Student Learning and Information Literacy Committee and is a member of the ACRL Information Literacy Standards Revision Task Force. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Arizona and a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The Michigan Instruction Exchange (MIX) is a focused day of discussion and learning for instruction librarians. Unlike a large conference full of presentations, MIX offers several opportunities for the participants to talk with each other about issues specific to information literacy instruction in academic libraries. Breakout sessions and round table discussions are facilitated by instruction librarians from around the state.

GVSU will be hosting the 2nd biennial MIX on Friday, August 8, in Allendale, just west of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Registration is capped at 120 participants. Registration will be open until July 18 or until filled.

MIX was created in 2012 by the Instructor College at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor.
