Search for Director at the Alcona County Library
Because of the impending retirement of the current director, Alcona County
Library is seeking applicants for a new director. Applicants should have
earned an ALA-accredited Masters of Library Science - MLS or MILs - and
demonstrate five years of administrative experience or the equivalent. The
position offers a salary of $40,000 - $60,000, according to qualifications
and experience, and a full benefits package. This job will be available as
early as June 1, 2015.
Alcona County is in northeast Michigan along the Lake Huron coast. The
county consists of seven towns and villages plus more small hamlets. The
area depends largely on agricultural, forestry and tourist dollars to keep
its economy vital. It is an outdoorsman's paradise with a scenic
combination of forests, lakes, rivers and beaches. Wildlife is abundant and
varied, pleasing both the nature watcher and the hunter.
Alcona County Library is a Class 3 rural library system, supported by a
millage, which serves the county's approximately 10,000 residents. The main
branch is in Harrisville, with outlying branches in Lincoln, Mikado and
Caledonia Township (Hubbard Lake). In addition to the usual excellent
library services and programs, the Library provides public computers and the
Internet at all branches, as well as free access to almost 15,000 e-books.
There is a large array of digitized historical materials for use on
premises, including 3,000-plus photos from the Alcona Historical Society
collection and the entire run of two local newspapers, the Alcona County
Review (1877 to present) and the Alcona County Herald (1908-1963).
The Director is accountable to the Alcona County Library Board of Trustees
to represent the Library in the community, plan services and programs,
administer library policies, hire and supervise a staff of two other
full-time and 12 part-time employees, oversee operations, and develop
collections. The Director is expected to provide a leadership role within
the library and the community and serves as the official representative of
the library. For complete Job Description click here.
Applicant must e-mail in PFD format a letter of application, a resume and
other materials they wish to present, along with his or her email address,
