Full disclaimer: It is not the business model of neither TLN specifically nor Michigan public libraries in general, to promote the interest of any commercial venture. That said, more than one of our MAP partners is a commercial venture, which means that they are taking a "hit" at the gate by virtue of their participation in the MAP program. As that is the case, I am not opposed to reciprocity by way of sharing relevant information from MAP partners with libraries. I suspect Shelper's Mackinac Island Ferry and Shepler's Lighthouse Cruise will prove to be popular MAP venues with Michigan public library patrons. TLN was closed for the Good Friday holiday, so when going through this morning's three day accumulation of email I was VERY pleased to see such a huge number of "yes, of course we are renewing MAP for 2015-2016" messages in my inbox from our current MAP cultural partners. This includes destinations such as Michigan Science Center, Detroit Institute of Arts, Holocaust Memorial Center, Southern Michigan Railroad, Sloan Museum, Meadow Brook Hall, Upper Peninsula Children's Museum, and so many others.

As we have built close relationships with our renewing cultural partners, so too have we continued to reach out to potential new venues, pointing out to them the benefits that will come their way courtesy of a new relationship with Michigan's 5,043,700 registered public library patrons via the MAP program. To that end I am extremely pleased to present to you and your patrons our newest MAP partner, which is the subject of this message. Yes, Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry has joined the Michigan Activity Pass program! Is that cool or what?! Shepler's will offer discounts on their ferry boat ride to Mackinac Island from both Mackinaw City and St. Ignace, as well as discounts on their Shepler's Lighthouse Cruises.

Does that news float your boat? How do you think your patrons will react? The definition of a boat has traditionally been "a hole in the water into which you pour money." But for Michigan public library patrons who partake of MAP, Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry will be a boat of a different color.

I know you will want to share this exciting news with your patrons by way of adding the MAP website http://michiganactivitypass.info to your library's homepage, as well as by making available the MAP promotional materials at http://tln.lib.mi.us/map/

Shepler's will begin their partnership with MAP, along with all of our other new venues (remember, 230+ DNR sites, too!) on May 24.
