[Michlib-l] MeLCat delivery and Patron Privacy

I hate the tri-fold bands, too. At my library I keep the paging slips until I return the books so I have the information easy at hand if one of my patrons loses or damages a book, and then I shred them. That means I have to remove and reattach the tri-fold bands to make a copy.

Usually the middle of the tri-fold is showing, because that has the loaned to and from boxes, and not the patron’s name. So was the band put on wrong? Or was it a different band? For returning, I’d either take the band off and refold  it so the patron’s name didn’t show, or tape the RIDES label over the patron’s name. Maybe contact the lending library and explain your concerns?

This is a good time to remind everyone not to reuse paging slips for the same reason- to protect patrons’ privacy.

I just had a situation I'm really uncomfortable with.  As a librarian, my patron's privacy is extremely important to me.



I have a MeLCat I'm returning that has one of the tri-fold bands, and the way it's folded (and the way it was received), shows that patron's name and barcode in plain sight (which isn't the problem, although I do detest the tri-fold bands!).  The problem is that the library is a no-pack library.  With the book being a no-pack, it also displays the title and partial content of the book.  Through delivery (both coming and returning), the patron's name and book/subject requested are out in the open for any of the delivery people, book sorters etc to see.



How would/do other librarian's handle a situation such as this?
