The Wayne State University School of Library and Information Science is pleased to announce updates to its Graduate Certificate in Information Management (IM), effective immediately. The IM Certificate is designed to appeal to current Master’s students who want expanded opportunities with technology and data management and to pre- or post-Master’s students who need to enhance or update their information technology and data management skills and practices.

Like other SLIS certificates, the IM Certificate requires 15 hours of course work for certificate-only students and 6 hours of additional course work for students presently in the MLIS degree program. Changes to the certificate include updated specializations in line with current professional and technological practices and less restrictive curricular requirements that allow for greater personal flexibility and personalization.

Five suggested specializations, with five courses per specialization, are offered:

    * Software Tools
    * Web-based Information Services
    * Health Informatics and Data Management
    * Data Analytics
    * User Experience

Students are free to select all their courses from one specialization or to combine one or more specializations to create a unique, personalized program of study. A practicum is also an option for students who need practical experience to complement their course work.
