POSITION TITLE: Youth Paraprofessional (union) APPLICATION PERIOD:
LOCATION: Nelson Sand Lake Branch Beginning: March 3, 2015
RATE: $ 15.93/hr. - 20 hrs/wk Closing Date: March 17, 2015
DUTIES: Provides reference and information services to Library patrons. Assists patrons in their search for library materials. Provides reader's advisory and reference interview services as needed. Maintains the collection including shifting of books, discarding of materials, requesting of replacement materials, evaluating donated materials and displaying of new or seasonal materials. Participates in the selection and ordering of materials for inclusion in the library's collection. Instructs and assists Library staff and patrons in basic technical support maintenance and troubleshooting in the use of various library equipment. Assists in the planning, organizing and implementing of Library programs and special projects that meet the youth population needs, including underserved communities. Provides programs for library youth patrons. Provides training and guidance to clerical staff and volunteers. May provide assistance in initiating and maintaining community contacts. Participates in the formation, development, and implementation of goals and action plans. Pursues professional development by serving on KDL committees, and attending meetings, workshops, and conferences. Participates in professional organizations. Provides circulation services, as operations require.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Bachelor's degree and successful experience working with children and young adults. Ability to travel between work locations and related places of business as needed. Considerable knowledge of available circulating materials and basic reference sources. Working knowledge of public library computer hardware and software operations. Ability to work under general supervision with latitude in exercising independent judgment and discretion. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact with various library personnel and patrons. Analytical ability to maintain accurate statistics. Visual acuity and physical skills necessary to retrieve library materials from shelves and storage areas, maintain library materials and operate equipment. Physical ability to push/pull fully loaded book carts and lift/carry materials weighing up to 40 pounds. Hearing ability to answer telephone and patron inquiries. Ability to operate a variety of library equipment including a computer, fax and copy machine.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Course work in Library Science, one year of professional library work, and knowledge of children's materials and programming is preferred. Bilingual, English/Spanish desirable.
HOURS AND LOCATION: KDL provides library services to our local communities seven days per week. All positions will require some evening and weekend hours, including Sundays. While this position is currently assigned at the above location, KDL reserves the right to require all employees to be available for assignments at any KDL location.
