[Michlib-l] Good read for school visits...

A fun one that a lot of kids have been enjoying with me this spring is
Creamed Tuna Fish and Peas on Toast by Philip Christian Stead. It doesn't
have a Michigan storyline as written, but the author grew up in Dearborn, MI
and lives in Ann Arbor with his wife (Caldecott Award Winner, Erin Stead. He
wrote and she illustrated A Sick Day for Amos McGee.) For me this has a bit
more of a personal connection, I know the author's parents, sister, niece
and nephews. According to Karyl, it's based on a true family story. Her
grandfather really hated creamed tuna fish and buried her grandmother's
casserole dish in the yard in protest. It's a very funny book.

(Oh and a side note for those who might take this to schools, Philip Stead
is featured in the Time for Kids March edition, so if the school you're
dealing with subscribes, the kids have read about him. )

Hello, library partners! Secretary of State Ruth Johnson will be reading to
3rd graders at several Michigan elementary schools for "March is Reading
Month"and needs some suggestions for what to read. During her visits last
year, she read a wonderful book entitled, "Goodnight, Michigan." This year,
she would like something exciting ... a story that is engaging or
adventurous. Of course, a Michigan author or storyline would be a plus!
Any suggestions?
