There are just two weeks left to register for the 141st Annual Meeting and
State History Conference. Register today to ensure that you have a spot at
this year's conference, which takes place September 25-27, 2015, in Saginaw,

With a diverse lineup of breakout sessions, compelling keynotes, and some
never-before-offered sessions, this year's State History Conference is
definitely a must-attend event!

 

The 141st Annual Meeting and State History Conference will be held in
Saginaw on September 25-27, 2015. The main sessions of the conference will
take place at Saginaw Valley State University, and several other events will
be held at exciting historical venues throughout the city.

 

The State History Awards will also be presented during the conference. Each
year, the Historical Society of Michigan presents a State History Award to
those individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions
to the appreciation and understanding of Michigan history.

organization, founded in 1828 by territorial governor Lewis Cass and
explorer Henry Schoolcraft. A nongovernmental nonprofit, the Society focuses
on publications, conferences, education, awards and recognition programming,

Michigan's rich history.

Here's a preview of this year's conference.

 

Saturday evening's Closing Banquet, to be held at the historic Temple
theatre, will feature an evening with the Honorable Frank J. Kelley, who
will share stories from his life and many years as attorney general through
a conversation with journalist Jack Lessenberry.

 

Plus.

 

3 keynotes: "Timber! Michigan: A Lumberman's Paradise," "A Man of Influence:
Henry G. Marsh, First African-American Mayor in Saginaw," and "Up in Smoke:
The 1893 Saginaw Fire"

 

12 breakout sessions and 4 workshops with topics such as "The Ships That Bay
City Built," "The Roaring Twenties' Influence on African-American
Migration," "Forced to Fit In: The Assimilation Era and Federal Indian
Policy," and "The Flying Melzoras"

 

4 tours, including "A Private Showing of the Goodridge Brothers'
Photographs" and "A Walking Tour of Saginaw's Historic South Jefferson
Avenue"
