The Board of Trustees of the  <http://www.dcplibrary.org/> Daviess County
Public Library (headquartered in Owensboro, KY) seeks an experienced and
innovative dynamo who is responsive to community needs and can lead a team
of creative and talented staff. This vibrant Library (an independent taxing
district) serves 98,000 people with a staff of 46 FTEs, a $4 million budget,
and strong auxiliary support from the Friends and Library Foundation. The
Library circulates 750,000+ items annually and has 79,673 registered card
holders.

county seat of Daviess County and the fourth largest city in Kentucky.
Located on the southern bank of the Ohio River, Owensboro offers many
outdoor recreation opportunities, an active and varied arts community, and
is the home of the International Bluegrass Music Museum.  Owensboro is known
as a Festival City with wonderful family-oriented activities and events to
attend throughout the year. The city has received many recent awards
including Nerdwallet's 'Top 100 Best Small Cities in the Nation for 2015,'
and a 2013 All-American City Award. The region has recently experienced a
renaissance with over $1.5 billion in new investment, including a nationally

Responsibilities. Under the direction of the Library Board, the Library
Director is responsible for identifying, planning, organizing, executing and
evaluating an effective library program for the community. For the detailed

Qualifications. A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited
graduate library school (eligibility for Professional Level I KY
certification); and a minimum of three years (seven years or more preferred)
of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of
education and experience.   Essential attributes include experience in staff
management, budget administration and working in a non-profit,
community-based environment; excellent public relations skills with the
Library patrons, the general public and the media; ability to develop and
maintain effective working relationships with the board and staff;
well-developed organizational skills; excellent knowledge of and ability
with computerized library methods and services; ability to communicate
effectively both orally and in writing; knowledge of budgeting and
accounting practices.  Successful director experience reporting to a
governing board and experience working on a building project are preferred.

 

Compensation.  The starting salary range is $96,299-$110,684 (placement
being dependent on experience and qualifications) with an attractive
benefits package.
