[Michlib-l] Win Funding for Your Library Project

Kary Askew kaskew at milibraries.org

MLA is hosting a new event during 2016 annual conference, Library SOUP. This is a micro grant funding project that can secure money for innovative projects your library might not be able to afford.
Think of it as a go-fund-me project where your peers will vote for the winning project idea.

Library SOUP is an opportunity to win funding for your library project. Don't miss your chance to submit a proposal.
Submissions will be accepted through June 10.
For more information or to submit a proposal: http://www.milibraries.org/prof-development-networking/annual-conference/library-soup/

Library SOUP is based on the model of Detroit SOUP and we are pleased to welcome Executive Director Amy Kaherl of Detroit SOUP as one of our MLA 2016 keynote speakers this year.
If you have any questions, please contact Kristy Doak at 517-394-2774 or kdoak at milibraries.org.

We will be moving to a new ILS later this summer. The new system allows us to set up family groupings so that staff can be notified automatically if someone else in the family owes money or has overdue materials.

  * Does anyone have a policy on how they are using a similar feature?
  * Do you have a form or release which you require the adults to sign
in regard to the Michigan Privacy Act?
  * Do you require problems to be resolved if spouses have agreed to
release information to their husband/wife but have separate cards.

This is information we have not been able to keep in the past so any help would be appreciated.

Hello Everyone,

Are there any libraries that can share forms that they use, or other policies/procedures that they follow, to ensure that new hires are properly trained on all circulation tasks? Also, to ensure that current employees are still properly trained and know how to do all tasks.

Thanks,

Hi, Everyone.

We have 15 ex-library paperback copies of Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. Also, 1 stand up poster, many bookmarks, many Readers' Guides and some Teachers' Guides.

If you would like these free materials, we can send them to you through RIDES.

Let me know. Thanks.

We've had La'Ron several times at our library and hope to have him again.
He is the best! He's a real natural storyteller and holds the audience's attention very well. I very highly recommend him.

In this webinar, we will look at six key principles of buy-in and apply them to a typical volunteer management scenario. For more information and to register, visit: https://4good.org/explore/latest/webinars

Hello All!

Wanted to share that we had Michigan author, Mardi Jo Link present last week at our library. Her program was terrific and received rave reviews. I've attached a copy of our poster. Highly recommended; she's a great, fun presenter.

Here is a description: "Yes, you CAN write a memoir!" That's the title of a new writing workshop developed by me, Michigan Notable Author, Mardi Link.
The workshop lasts two hours and includes helpful writing prompts, opportunities for participants to read their work out loud to the group, (only if they so desire - promise!) a suggested reading list and handouts, publishing insight, and a personal on-site critique. The cost is $500 all inclusive, which means workshop fee, mileage, and all handouts. My work has focused on non-fiction (Bootstrapper,The Drummond Girls, Wicked Takes the Witness Stand, Isadore's Secret, and When Evil Came to Good Hart,) and I'd like to share what I've learned with other writers.

Her contact information:
