With the financial assistance of the Michigan Humanities Council, the Clarke Historical Library has developed a traveling exhibit discussing Native American treaties and treaty rights in Michigan. The exhibit uses six pull-up exhibit panels, along with printed matter. It discusses what a treaty is and how treaties have been applied to three subjects: land, education, and hunting and fishing. There are also links in the printed material to more extensive essays on these subjects found on the Clarke's website.

The exhibit and printed material are available free of charge, except for the cost of transportation. Also included without charge is a public program discussing these topics, which we hope will lead to a discussion within your community about treaties and treaty rights.

If you are interested in exploring having the exhibit at your institution, please click on the link for more detailed information about the exhibit, including scans of the banners themselves and a pdf version of the printed material: https://www.cmich.edu/library/clarke/PublicPrograms/Current_Exhibit/Pages/NativeAmericanTreaties.aspx

The Clarke has several other exhibits available for loan without charge, except for the cost of transportation. For a complete list visit: https://www.cmich.edu/library/clarke/PublicPrograms/Current_Exhibit/Pages/Travelling.aspx

Exhibits dates are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Native American exhibit is currently being scheduled for two-week shows. Clarke staff would be happy to discuss with you the length of time other exhibits would visit your library.
