Library Director - Lake Odessa Community Library

The Lake Odessa Community Library is a modern, newly renovated, 8000 square foot facility that provides programs and services to 4,200 patrons.  The library is on Main Street in the quaint, nearly 130 year old village of Lake Odessa.  The village itself boasts multiple small businesses and industries, several churches, a public beach, a tree-shaded park, a historical train depot museum and its own fairgrounds. Lake Odessa annually hosts a fair, Girls' Night Out, Art in the Park, an antique car show, and Fall Festival.  Lake Odessa and its small town neighbors of Sunfield, Woodland and Clarksville form the Lakewood Public School system that offers rich opportunities in education, sports, music and drama.  Nearby are several recreational lakes and golf courses. Lake Odessa is situated 7 miles south of I-96, between Lansing and Grand Rapids, offering quiet country living yet convenient to larger urban environments.

The Lake Odessa Community Library is formed as a District Library.  The Library Director reports to an 8 member Board of Trustees, 4 appointed by the Lake Odessa Village Council and 4 by the Odessa Township Board of Trustees.  The Lake Odessa Community Library seeks to hire a Library Director due to the retirement of the current director.  This position is for a full-time director, which offers a compensation package including paid sick, vacation, and holiday time as well as a health care and retirement benefits. The total compensation package is negotiable and is dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Successful candidates must have a minimum of a high school diploma, 5 years of progressively responsible full-time experience in a public library, and have (or be able to obtain within one year) a State of Michigan Library Director Level 4 certification.

General areas of responsibility include the following: general administration and management, personnel management, community and professional development, planning, organizing, and evaluation.
