MALA's annual Young Adult workshop is scheduled for November 7, 2016 at the Mid-Continent Public Library's Woodneath Library Center from 9am-4pm.
Expert panelists, discussions, games, and more, all speaking to services for at-risk, LGBTQIA, special needs, and culturally diverse teens.

AGENDA:

9-10am Panel on library services for diverse teens:
Panelists will share their expertise on how to identify and target the needs of diverse teens (focusing on culturally diverse, at-risk, and special needs communities), and how to provide, evaluate, and adapt services to these groups.

  *   Gloria Tibbs - UMKC diversity librarian
  *   Lauren Olson - MCPL youth services for at-risk
  *   Rachel Oswald - YMCA Challenger programming for special needs
10-10:15am Break

10:15-11:15am Breakout sessions

  *   Gloria Tibbs: Collaborative Diversity with the Communities: Understanding Library Services to Culturally Diverse Populations
  *   Rachel Oswald: Inclusion and Disability Awareness
11:15-12pm Breakout Box/Room Interactive Challenge

12-1pm Lunch

1-2pm Programming for Diverse Teens Q&A Panel

2-2:45pm Trivia! Diversity and Teen Pop Culture Trivia

2:45-3pm Break

3-4pm Diversity book talks:

  *   Including lists of books with main characters who are LGBTQIA, culturally diverse, atrisk, or have special needs (presented by committee members)
