Position:       Head of Liberals Arts Programs, University Libraries

Rank:             Assistant or Associate Librarian (tenure-track)

Reports to:    Associate Dean of Research and Instructional Services

Location:       Mary Idema Pew Library Learning & Information Commons, Allendale, MI

Grand Valley State University Libraries seeks engaged and collegial applicants for Head of Liberal Arts Programs. This tenure-track faculty librarian position provides guidance, supervision, and leadership for a team of liberal arts librarians and professional support staff from a variety of backgrounds and mentors library faculty and staff in connecting their work to the libraries' mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities. 

The individual in this position works collaboratively with all department heads and the libraries’ leadership team to facilitate communication and teamwork, to provide excellent public services, and to strategically convey the importance of the library and its services to the higher education community. The successful candidate will directly assist in furthering the libraries' outreach, collection development, scholarly communications, and instructional goals.

GVSU librarians are full members of the university faculty and must possess the potential to fulfill the requirements for promotion and tenure, and are expected to engage in scholarship and professional development, institutional and professional service, and faculty governance. 

Required qualifications:
•	A master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or from a program in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA. 
•	Two years of supervisory experience, including demonstrated ability to lead team-based projects
•	Demonstrated commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students
•	Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability work successfully in an intensely collaborative environment
•	Minimum of five years of professional library experience
•	Demonstrated knowledge of issues and trends in higher education and academic libraries
•	Ability to meet the university’s expectations of scholarship and service for tenure
•	Experience with instruction,  collection development, and scholarly communication
•	Commitment to professional development and ability to mentor faculty and staff

Preferred qualifications:
•	Minimum of three years of academic library experience
•	Experience working in a shared governance environment with faculty librarians
•	Evidence of scholarly publications and significant presentations contributing to the body of knowledge in the field of librarianship
