Take action for libraries during Virtual Library Legislative Day
Hundreds of library supporters will convene in Washington D.C. for National Library Legislative Day, May 1-2. They will meet with their members of Congress to rally support for library issues and policies. But if you can’t make it to D.C., you can still advocate for libraries by emailing, calling or Tweeting your representatives as part of Virtual Library Legislative Day (VLLD) from May 1-5. Library experts work with public to save family heirlooms, collectibles
Each year millions of Americans put their family keepsakes at risk because they lack the knowledge of how to store and preserve items. Innovative outreach programs and strategies sought for 2017 ALA Diversity & Outreach Fair
The ALA Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services invites library professionals from institutions of all kinds to submit proposals for the fair, to be held from 3 – 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 during the American Library Association's Annual Conference in Chicago. The fair provides an opportunity for libraries and member groups to share their successful diversity and outreach initiatives with ALA Annual Conference attendees, celebrate diversity in America’s libraries and exhibit “diversity in action” ideas. Eight libraries receive John Cotton Dana Public Relations Award
Eight libraries honored for outstanding library public relations will receive a $10,000 cash award from sponsors EBSCO and the HW Wilson Foundation through a program managed by the Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA), a division of ALA. Promotions included a multi-lingual campaign to launch a space designed by teens exclusively for teens and a unique twist on the traditional summer reading program in collaboration with the National Park Service. http://www.ala.org/news/press-releases/2017/04/announcing-2017-john-cotton-dana-library-public-relations-award-winners

FAFLRT/ASCLA merger moves ahead
The Federal and Armed Forces Libraries Round Table (FAFLRT) of the American Library Association (ALA) voted to proceed with merging with the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA) division of ALA in the spring 2017 election. http://www.ala.org/news/member-news/2017/04/faflrtascla-merger-voted-move-forward
