OPEN POSITION DESCRIPTION
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY

Position Function:
The Executive Director of the Library is responsible for the strategic leadership in developing, managing, and providing learning resources and services to the college constituencies throughout the College campus and at remote locations.  The Library consists of: Research Services, Access Services, Technical Services, and Computer Commons.  Reports to: Vice President for Instruction.  Salary range: $85,063 - $93,569.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  *   Strategically develop and recommend the Library's and Computer Commons' goals, policies, resources and services to align with the immediate and long-goals of the college, and to meet the educational needs of faculty and students.
  *   Recommend, hire and supervise personnel for the Library's and Computer Commons' professional and support positions.  Plan and direct the work of subordinate staff.  Train, develop, evaluate and when necessary, take appropriate disciplinary steps.
  *   Prepare and recommend the annual budget for the Library's and Computer Commons' cost centers.  Allocate approved funds and provide expenditure control.
  *   Play a leadership role in the college's adoption of OER and development of OER courses by collaborating with the instructional deans and faculty.
  *   Conduct outreach to internal and external college constituencies, such as Student Services and top-feeder high schools, etc. to contribute to student success.
  *   Coordinate all major library services and systems: acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, reserves, reference, interlibrary loan, and research instruction.
  *   Evaluate the accessibility of resources and services as needed.   Make changes in systems and in the utilization of space to accommodate these needs.
  *   Plan, direct and organize staff to select, acquire, organize and make available to the college community both print and non-print library collections.
  *   Direct the regular compilation of statistical data and the required preparation and submission of reports on the library's collection and services to federal and state agencies, library networks and consortia.
  *   Develop policies and procedures for library resource sharing and support participation in existing national, state and local cooperative arrangements.
  *   Plan for and oversee all aspects of the college's open access Computer Commons, including the development of a user-centric learning commons support environment, and collaborate with other departments, such as ITS, Learning
Support Services, and Writing Center, etc., to provide computing and tutoring resources and services at the Commons.


Related Duties:

  *   Seek sources of outside funding when necessary and provide expenditure control for grant-funded projects.
  *   Participate, as a member, in the work of college committees and represent the Library and Computer Commons at college meetings and functions.
  *   Perform other related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  *   Master's degree in Information & Library Science accredited by the American Library Association.
  *   Minimum of two (2) years' experience as the director of a library and/or library organization overseeing all administrative, planning, budgetary and personnel operations.
  *   Analytical/administrative abilities to develop strategic planning and administer budgets for major cost centers.
  *   Experience in directly supervising staff, preferably in a union environment.
  *   Interpersonal skills for effective communication with staff, faculty, students and administration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  *   Knowledge of library metadata standards and protocols, such as RDA, AACR2, MARC21, etc.
  *   Knowledge of copyright laws as related to learning resources and services.
  *   Knowledge of library systems and technologies.
