December 2017
2018 Manuals have shipped!
Week for the 2019 Annual Meeting has been chosen
January: Happy New Year 2018!
CSLP 2020 RFP process begins
2018 CSLP Annual meeting: April 8th – 12th. Denver, CO
2019 Annual Meeting: Poll Results
Last month a poll was sent out to the CSLP State Reps to find a week in the Fall of 2019 to hold the annual meeting. We had forty-five individuals respond, and 82% of respondents indicated that they could attend the Annual Meeting if it is held the week of September 16, 2019.
Planning for the 2019 meeting is already underway, and the move from a Spring to a Fall meeting is being incorporated into CSLP’s long term planning. The revised timeline should help us better leverage the ideas and excitement generated at the Annual Meeting, and will provide our committees a shot of inspiration when they need it most!
The CSLP board would like to thank everyone who participated!
Busy Building a Better World!

Kelly Martinez reported that teens and staff at the Hermiston Public Library in Hermiston, OR, had a very busy summer building a better world. Using kits paid for by their Friends of the Library, the teens created tie blankets for the homeless, a project they really enjoyed. Teens also prepared a meal for themselves and library staff, and worked with Parks and Rec to pull weeds, and beautify their community!
Stories from Around the World

The C.E. Weldon Public Library of Martin, TN, is fortunate to be in a small town with a University. Youth and Children's Services Director Jenny Claiborne worked closely with the University of Tennessee at Martin's Office of International Studies and put together some wonderful programming.
For eight weeks in June and July Students from other countries came and read stories from their homelands, as well as shared language, crafts, and snacks!

Emma Victor, library manager at the San Carlos Public Library in San Carlos, AZ reported a record number of participants this summer! This was by far the most children and teens they ever had, and all enjoyed the programs and had a wonderful time learning new things.

[https://gallery.mailchimp.com/043a7515ceb3ad45bdd2dd405/images/36cf7b3d-2d76-4297-917b-b5adb370af3f.jpg]Are you looking for a little more M in your STEM programming? Well, look no further, Bedtime Math is here to help! Longtime CSLP partner, Bedtime Math is gearing up for it’s 2018 Summer of Numbers. Summer of Numbers is an easy way for you to incorporate math into your existing programming.
To participate in their Summer of Numbers, simply download their free math chart and distribute it, along with your summer reading record. Bedtime Math will post a new math problem each night, and participants follow along, filling in their chart every time they answer a problem. At the end of the summer, they can turn their chart back into the library for a prize or certificate. It is up to you!

It's that time of year when we look for the best of the best general themes for future CSLP Programs!
This year we a[https://gallery.mailchimp.com/043a7515ceb3ad45bdd2dd405/images/41abd8bb-4f01-4097-8f37-1f5ef47f2799.jpg]re asking for suggestions for not only the 2021 program year, but also the 2022 program year. Contracting with illustrators further out into the future allows them more time to fit us into their schedule, and increases our ability to work with the artists that our members suggest. It also aligns theme suggestions with the strengths of the illustrators and provides more flexibility with integrating their art into the manual production process. This ultimately provides us with the opportunity to provide more products with our artwork, and getting all of our summer reading promotional materials into the hands of our members in a more reasonable time frame.
Link to the submission form will be distributed to State Reps via e-mail so please keep on the look out for that important message to come through. If you are not a State Rep but would like to suggest general themes for these future years please get in contact with your State Rep to submit your ideas.
If you have any questions or concerns please email Luke Kralik, CSLP Organizational Coordinator at luke.kralik at cslpreads.org<mailto:luke.kralik at cslpreads.org> or BriAnne B. Newton, Teen Manual Chair at brianne.baxley at berkeleycountysc.gov<mailto:brianne.baxley at berkeleycountysc.gov>
CD/DVDs Available for Craft Projects!
As many of you know, music is our theme for the summer 2018 CSLP program. In the past CSLP has used old/unused CD/DVDs as a decoration in our booth to draw attention and reflect on our theme.
If you would like to use old/unused CD/DVDs in your local promotion, the CSLP office has some available for the cost of shipping only. You need to let us know A.S.A.P. how many you need and we will ship them in the near future. There is a limited quantity so please e-mail me with your request as they will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
Thank you!

We Need a Graphic Design Company!
[https://gallery.mailchimp.com/043a7515ceb3ad45bdd2dd405/images/124760b8-1ed9-4020-af3f-15d8da41440f.jpg]In 2015, CSLP contracted directly with David Mcaulay to create the artwork for the 2017 program year. Because of this, we are the sole copyright holder of the artwork, and have created similar agreements with Brian Pinkney, Leeza Hernandez, LeUyen Pham, and Salina Yoon.
Our move to directly commissioning artwork has opened new opportunities for us. In order to better take advantage of this development, CSLP is seeking to find a graphic design house to best utilize these art assets.
If your library has worked with an outstanding design company, please share my contact information, as well as this link to a document detailing our design needs:
