Sarah Jessica Parker selects Ayobami Adebayo’s “Stay with Me” for ALA Book Club Central pick
The latest American Library Association (ALA) Book Club Central SJP pick<http://www.bookclubcentral.org/>, chosen by Honorary Book Club Central Chair Sarah Jessica Parker, is “Stay with Me” by Ayobami Adebayo, published by Knopf, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
Book Club Central, designed in consultation with expert librarians, provides the public with the very best in reading. Book Club Central debuted this past summer and since that time has become a place for engaging content and information for book clubs and readers everywhere. Ms. Parker’s previous picks for Book Club Central have been “No One is Coming to Save Us” by Stephanie Powell Watts, and “Exit West” by Mohsin Hamid.
Book Club Central Sponsoring Partners are Booklist, the book review magazine of the ALA; United for Libraries, a division of the ALA; and Libraries Transform, the ALA’s public awareness campaign, along with Corporate Platinum Partner Penguin Random House. McGill University (Montreal, Quebec) creates ALA Student Chapter
The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce that the School of Information Studies, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, has
created a new ALA student chapter.
Each ALA student chapter has its own character and purpose. All enhance students' ALA membership by providing leadership and programming
opportunities on the campuses.
On Dec. 14, 2017, the McGill chapter became the 63rd ALA student chapter. Katherine Hanz, MLIS, library and information studies librarian at
McGill, will serve as faculty advisor for the new student chapter.

Libraries invited to apply for pilot program for underserved youth
The American Library Association (ALA) invites libraries to apply for a pilot of the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) Great Stories Club (GSC)<https://apply.ala.org/greatstories/>, a thematic reading and discussion program series that will engage underserved teens through literature-based library outreach programs and racial healing work. The TRHT GSC is supported by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation<http://www.ala.org/news/press-releases/2017/10/ala-receives-11-million-wk-kellogg-foundation-reading-and-discussion-model>.
An expansion of ALA’s long-standing GSC program model, the TRHT GSC will feature books that explore the coming-of-age experience for historically marginalized youth. The TRHT GSC is a part of the Kellogg Foundation’s Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation efforts, a comprehensive, national and community-based process to plan for and bring about transformational and sustainable change, and to address the historic and contemporary effects of racism.

Professional development goes ‘Beyond the Horizon’ on AASL eCOLLAB
More than 70 concurrent sessions recorded at the AASL National Conference & Exhibition in Phoenix are now available for view on the American Association of School Librarians’ professional development repository, eCOLLAB<http://www.ala.org/aasl/ecollab>. With these additional resources, eCOLLAB now offers 400 on-demand elearning opportunities for members of the school library profession.
Topics of sessions captured during the conference, themed "Beyond the Horizon,” include introductions to facets of AASL’s new National School Library Standards<http://standards.aasl.org/>, raising the level of learning in school libraries, and addressing the needs of a new generation of students.

Application process open for 2018 ALA Leadership Institute
The application process for the 2018 “Leading to the Future” ALA Leadership Institute (Aug. 6-9, Eaglewood Resort, Itasca, Illinois) is now open, with applications accepted through March 9, 2018. Building on the success of the past ALA Leadership Institutes, the four-day immersive leadership development program for 40 mid-career librarians will be led again by ALA Past-President Maureen Sullivan and library and leadership consultant Kathryn Deiss.

Susan Wiggs among the authors at United for Libraries Gala Author Tea, sponsored by ReferenceUSA, at Midwinter
Susan Wiggs, Silas House, Elisabeth Hyde, Ariel Lawhon, Molly Tanzer and Spencer Wise will be among the featured authors at the United for Libraries Gala Author Tea, sponsored by ReferenceUSA, from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12 at the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Denver.
A light offering of tea, finger sandwiches and a variety of sweet treats will be served. A book signing will follow. United for Libraries will recognize the winners of the 2017 National Friends of Libraries Week Awards during the program.
