  * Engage Your Community when Planning for Change<http://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/engaged-planning-webinar-writeup.html>: Your role in your public library elevates you to a community leader and change agent. No matter your formal title or the size of your library, you have the opportunity to meet and evolve with your communities' changing needs. As a central learning and gathering space, your library supports the needs of a wide range of community needs for children, businesses, tribal communities, seniors, English language learners, the list goes on. With such a range of stakeholders in your community, how do you learn about your communities' evolving needs and then plan for change?
  * The Social Library: Homelessness Edition<http://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/social-library-76.html>. This collection of Facebook posts are from libraries who connect with community members experiencing homelessness. These include a community resource specialists program, a homeless veteran raising awareness of homelessness, a donation drive as part of the annual homelessness count, a One Book, One Community project focused on housing instability and an early morning Coffee & Conversation program.

Libraries Help Patrons Become Financially Empowered Consumers

Tuesday, February 14, 2017 ♦ 3:00 pm Eastern / 12:00 pm Pacific ♦ 1 hour

Registration: http://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/financially-empowered-consumers.html

The Consumer Finance Protection Bureau<http://www.consumerfinance.gov/library-resources/> (CFPB) exists not only to protect consumers but to empower all of us to take more control over our economic lives. The CFPB recognizes the important role that libraries can play as the go-to source for unbiased financial education resources in every community. The CFPB plans to build a community financial education infrastructure with libraries and national partners to reach consumers in their neighborhoods, expanding on programs and resources that are already working in libraries. With this infrastructure in place, public libraries can help fill consumers’ critical financial knowledge gaps by providing and distributing easy-to-understand, behaviorally informed financial education content. Learn about program ideas, resources and tools, and how to connect with local partners. Take your library and your community to the next level with patrons empowered to be informed consumers.

Presented by: Ken McDonnell, Financial Education Program Analyst, Office of Financial Education, Division of Consumer Education and Engagement, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
