Muskego Public Library

The Muskego Public Library is seeking a director with a passion for advancing the mission of the library: Information, Ideas, Community. A talent for strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, the ability to remain positive and flexible, and a demonstrated ability to lead people are highly desired traits for this position.



The Muskego community: Serving over 24,534 area residents, the library is located in the City of Muskego. Known for its excellent schools and its ranking as one of the safest cities in Wisconsin according to the 2017 Safewise Report, Muskego is located at a convenient distance from Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago. The library is a state-of-the-art facility located centrally within the community which circulates ca. 282,000 items each year and has an annual budget of over $1,236,000.



Responsibilities: The Library Director plans, organizes, directs, and controls all functions, operations, and activities of the library, either directly or through senior management staff. The Director reports to the Library Board of Trustees and serves as a Department Head for the City of Muskego. The Director, under general direction and within the policies set by the Library Board, is responsible for developing and presenting an operating plan, budget, and policies necessary to provide optimal library service to community residents.



Education and experience: Master of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution and Grade 1 Wisconsin Public Librarian Certification. Applicants who do not currently hold Grade 1 Certification must agree to acquire same within 6 months of hire. Five years of professional library experience, including two years management level or equivalent training and experience are required.



Salary: The 2017 starting salary is $70,000, negotiable based on qualifications and experience. The City of Muskego offers a complete benefit package.
