[Michlib-l] Computer Time

Fifteen minutes before closing time we announce that the computers will shut down in 10 minutes (5 minutes before closing time).  In the announcement we also tell them to send their print outs and print them out immediately because they will disappear when the computers shut down.  If people are still on at the 5 minutes before closing, we send a message saying that their computer is now shutting down--after the message clears, we shut them down.  People have become very accustom to this and know that they just shut down.  If their print outs disappear, we don't turn the computer back on.  It sounds harsh, but if we don't do it, they will just keep taking advantage of the time and staff.  There are times where someone is having a hard time printing, etc., so we accommodate them, but we also remind them that computers shut down promptly at 5 minutes before closing.
