HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF MICHIGAN OFFERS "FOUNDING OF AMERICA" TOUR


 


Lansing, Mich.-The Historical Society of Michigan (HSM) announces its newest
Michiganders on the Road motor coach adventure-the Founding of America Tour.
The 9-day, 8-night tour includes stops at Washington, D.C.; Colonial
Williamsburg, Monticello, Montpelier, and the Gettysburg Battlefield. The
Founding of America Tour takes place May 3-11, 2018, and departs from the
HSM offices in Lansing, Michigan, with two pickup stops in Ann Arbor and
Toledo. A detailed itinerary is attached to this e-mail. It can also be

Founding of America motor coach tour participants will have the chance to
discover how the United States originated and how it was sustained. Tour
highlights include a guided tour of our nation's capital; exploring George
Washington's Mt. Vernon; in-depth visits to Historic Jamestown and Colonial
Williamsburg; the opportunity to experience Monticello, the home of Thomas
Jefferson, and Montpelier, the home of James Madison; and a tour of
America's most hallowed ground-the Gettysburg Battlefield-which will have a
special emphasis on the participation of Michigan regiments.

The tour fee is $1,995 per person and includes motor coach transportation;
all lodging; all dinners and breakfasts; and all admission fees, taxes, and
gratuities. Historical Society of Michigan membership is required;
memberships start at $25. Price is based on double occupancy. The
registration deadline is March 22, 2018.

The Michiganders on the Road motor coach tour program was developed by HSM
to allow participants to experience the culture and heritage of all 50
states. The excursions are not "cookie cutter" tours. Each and every tour is
planned, executed and guided by Robert Myers, HSM's assistant director for
education programs and events. When planning the adventures, Myers keeps in
mind what history enthusiasts look for in their road trips so that the
experience meets expectations.

The Historical Society of Michigan is the state's oldest cultural
organization, founded in 1828 by territorial governor Lewis Cass and
explorer Henry Schoolcraft. A nongovernmental nonprofit, the Society focuses
on publications, conferences, education, awards and recognition programming,
and support for local history organizations to preserve and promote
Michigan's rich history.
