[Michlib-l] Best Storytime Practices: a webinar series

The Library of Michigan is pleased to announce a new *interactive* webinar series on Best Storytime Practices with Professional Storyteller & Narrative Consultant, Jenifer Strauss.  Please register for each individual webinar by following the links below.  There are books listed under each webinar, please have as many on hand as possible during the webinar.  Also of note, the January webinar will focus on our Ready to Read Michigan program selection (formerly known as "Michigan Reads!") for public libraries.  All webinars will be recorded and links sent to registrants who cannot attend live.

In this live webinar, narrative consultant/storyteller, Jenifer Strauss will show you how to use storytelling to promote language, literacy and healthy brain development. Movement is a child's first language! Combine movement with rhythm and you have the foundation for literacy skills like listening, speaking, reading and writing.
In support of healthy early childhood learning experiences and the ALA Every Child Ready to Read initiative, narrative consultant/storyteller, Jenifer Strauss will host a live webinar featuring stories, songs, play, and movement. Participants will learn how to plan and execute a well-balanced storytime that will allow young patrons to be active and creative with language. Directions for making percussion instruments and props included. PDF handouts of song lyrics and supporting research provided.

Join us to learn about a Ready to Read Storytime designed for outreach to your local early childhood providers & schools!  This year's book selection is "I Got the Rhythm" by Connie Schofield-Morrison and illustrated by Frank Morrison.  Copies of the title will be shipped to libraries mid-January-early February, so this is a sneak peek if you do not already have the book in-hand.

Jenifer Strauss uses story to help educators, organizations and
individuals connect, communicate, and achieve their goals.
Following ten years as a middle school educator, Jenifer
combined her love of teaching and storytelling and in 1993,
founded her consulting business, Story Be Told.
During her years in the classroom, Jenifer used storytelling with her students to capture
interest, motivate learning, and inspire writing. Jen learned that people think, learn and
imagine in story or narrative and helped her students make powerful connections
between imagining, speaking, and writing. Now traveling nationally, Jenifer offers
dynamic story performances, writing workshops, trainings and keynotes along with longterm
involvements as an Artist-in-Residence.
Jenifer is the creator of the Turning Points Personal Narrative Process which she
presents to schools, organizations, businesses and individuals. Her curriculum-based
program, "Tell It, Read It, Write It" has been performed and positively received by
schools across the United States.
Since 1993, Jenifer has designed library programs to coincide with the national
Summer Reading theme along with offering year-round library programs for patrons
from toddler to adult, including: staff training, Friend of the Library Dinner Theater,
Parent Nights and Teen Lock-in Nights.
Jenifer's credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of
Michigan, an elementary education degree from Western Michigan University, and a
secondary education degree in Biology from Michigan State University. Jenifer is
cofounder of the Center for Imagination, and partner in a collaborative business called
Cygnus Storytelling, LLC, whose publications and recordings include Telling Stories:
The Cygnus Storytelling Hand Book, and a CD called U Tell A Tale: Stories Told
Through-U. Her newest recording; Michigan Legends and Lore: Stories from Shore to
Shore, was released in the fall of 2009 and focuses on Michigan History.
