Florence-Lauderdale Public Library (AL) - Library Director
The Florence-Lauderdale Public Library<http://www.flpl.org> Board of Directors seeks a creative and engaging Library Director who will put patrons first through innovative services for the community and by equipping the staff with the tools and support to provide those services. The Library is well-supported by a population of 90,000 county residents in a 40,000 sq. ft. building with a dedicated staff (18 FTE) through a budget of $1.3 million. Funding is primarily provided by the city and county along with the generous support of the Library's Foundation and the Friends of the Library. Opportunities include: representing the Library externally to community stakeholders and further developing the Library's alternative revenue streams.
Florence and Lauderdale County is located in the northwest corner of Alabama on the banks of the Tennessee River in the heart of the Muscle Shoals region. Renowned for its place in American music and culture, a significant presence in the fashion industry, and a landscape rich in history, this region offers many opportunities to explore and grow. The library is the center of a vibrant and picturesque downtown, blocks from the University of North Alabama, which anchors a cultural area that includes a city park, art centers, historic architecture and museums. Responsibilities include: developing long and short-term goals for Library operations; preparing and presenting the Library's budget proposal and monitoring and approving expenditures; guiding management staff in planning for services that meet the present and future needs of the community; hiring and supervising Library staff; and interacting regularly with local government representatives.
Minimum qualifications: three years of experience in library management and operations or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. A Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited program, public library experience and experience as a director reporting to a governing board is preferred. Compensation. The starting salary range is $75,000 - $85,000 with placement dependent on qualifications. A competitive benefits package is included.
