The American Library Association (ALA) will be accepting nominations for our three awards soon. Please stay tuned for the links to the nomination forms and begin thinking about nominees!

Newlen-Symons Award for Excellence in Serving the GLBT Community <http://www.ala.org/rt/glbtrt/awards/newlen-symons-award-excellence-serving-glbt-community>

The award will honor recent library initiatives that demonstrate excellence in library services to or for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) community.

The award consists of a citation and $1,000 cash award. The award will be announced during the ALA 2018 Midwinter Meeting. The award honors a library, librarian, library staff member, library board and/or library friends groups who over a period of time have demonstrated change in the way libraries serve the GLBT community. Innovation, collaboration, risk taking and being a change-agent as an individual or institution will all be taken into account as part of the criteria for the award. The award will go to a person, library or group known for developing and implementing programs that are responsive to the needs of GLBT community. The award will be given to a person or group who has invested time and talent to make positive changes to GLBT service in their institution or community.

The award is funded by and named after Robert R. Newlen, chief of staff, Library of Congress and John and Ann Symons. Ann Symons is past-president and former treasurer of the ALA and a past chair of ALA's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Round Table.

Larry Romans Mentorship Award<http://www.ala.org/rt/glbtrt/awards/larry-romans>

The Larry Romans Mentorship Award is given annually by the Government Documents Round Table (GODORT) and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table (GLBTRT) of the American Library Association. The purpose of the award is to recognize librarians who, through their sustained mentoring efforts, have made a difference in our profession. Each year, the award will honor a librarian who has demonstrated excellence in the area of mentoring, who has successfully encouraged others to serve as mentors, and who has impacted the lives and careers of others through tirelessly devoting time, energy, and talent toward helping others succeed in our profession.

The award consists of a citation and $1,000. The award will be presented at the GODORT Awards Program at the ALA Annual Conference

GLBTRT Award for Political Activism<http://www.ala.org/rt/glbtrt/awards/political-activism>

Awarded annually by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association, the purpose of the award is to honor librarians, library related organizations (including libraries, library staff, library boards, library friends), and other individuals or groups (public or private) that have demonstrated excellence in the area of GLBT activism. The award is designed for someone who is involved in efforts to promote GLBT issues, impedes the progress of anti-GLBT efforts, or raises awareness of GLBT matters locally, statewide, nationally or internationally. The award recognizes the work of taking a clear stance on an issue, voicing an opinion and working to ensure that positive change happens for the GLBT community. The award may be given for a specific action, repeated actions (like a campaign), or a lifetime of work.

This award will be presented to an individual, group, or organization that has demonstrated positive and lasting change for GLBT individuals. Innovation, collaboration, risk-taking, and being a change-agent will all be taken into account as part of the criteria for the award. The award will be given to a person, group, or organization that has invested time and talent to make positive changes for GLBT people. The award consists of a citation and $1,000.
