Baker College Professional Services, Inc. seeks to hire an individual to be
assigned to the position of PALnet Systems Librarian for the benefit of and
to be located at Baker College of Flint.




*PALnet (Public and Academic Library Network) is a non-profit library
consortium headquartered at Baker College in Flint, Michigan. PALnet
administers the Koha open-source integrated library system (ILS) and its
supporting components and services for the libraries of: Baker College,
Mott Community College and Kettering University. PALnet’s mission is to
provide shared library support services that are leading-edge,
collaborative, and financially viable for its members.GENERAL STATEMENT OF
DUTIES: The Systems Librarian position helps to maintain the Koha
integrated library system (ILS) and its active modules of circulation,
serials, cataloging, acquisitions, inventory, reporting, and the online
public access catalog (OPAC). The Systems Librarian works with member
library staff to develop solutions and administer changes within PALnet’s
integrated systems. Additional responsibilities include training and ILS
support for member library staff, support for online library resources and
authentication, maintain ILS policy (documentation for circulation,
cataloging, holds, intra-loaning, etc.)MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:• Master’s in Library Science or related field from and ALA
accredited college or university. - Required• Experience in academic
library – Preferred.• Basic knowledge of online resources, including
electronic databases, journals and eBooks• Working knowledge internet
applications and web browsers.• Working Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10,
Microsoft Office, and Google Apps.• Knowledge of Web-based training tools
(e.g. WebEx, Camtasia).• Ability to communicate general and technical
information effectively to groups.• Ability to organize and prioritize
daily requests and problems.• Ability to work in a team-oriented
environment and to make individual contributions.• Ability to keep accurate
records• Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills• Must
be valid Michigan driver’s license and able to travel to supporting
colleges as needed.• Ability to lift and maneuver independently up to 25
lbs.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Helps to maintain the Koha integrated
library system (ILS) and its active modules of circulation, serials,
cataloging, acquisitions, inventory, and reports as necessary; through
tasks such as customization, system maintenance, and general
troubleshooting.• Maintains PALnet’s member library online public access
catalogs (OPAC). Tasks include working with member library staff to
customize interface functionality (searching and filters) and visual
appearance.• Provides ILS support and training to member library staff as
necessary; both online and onsite.• Assists the System Director in working
with external organizations including ByWater Solutions, MeLCat, and
Marcive to coordinate PALnet-related work, including data processing tasks,
and generating ticket requests.• Helps to design and enhance PALnet’s
online staff and public interfaces.• Troubleshoots and responds to daily
requests from PALnet members and patrons through administration of the
PALnet Helpdesk platform.• Assists in creating and publishing Koha Reports
requested by member library staff, including circulation statistics and
data exports.• Helps to manage PALnet’s online library resources. Resources
include electronic databases, eBooks, Discovery and authentication
services. Tasks include testing access, basic troubleshooting, and
communicating with member staff and students. • Performs routine cataloging
tasks in Koha and helps to manage authority records.• Other duties as
