Hello!

On Monday, October 1 from 12:00-2:00PM at the Downtown Library we're hosting:

Serving Older Struggling Readers with Dr. Virginia Loh-Hagan https://aadl.org/node/380561

[ http://www.virginialoh.com/ | Dr. Virginia Log-Hagan ] returns to talk and inspire teachers, librarians, educators and parents to learn strategies for serving older, struggling readers. This daytime workshop includes complimentary lunch for all attendees from [ https://www.jerusalemgarden.net/ | Jerusalem Garden ] . Dr. Loh-Hagan will also be presenting in the evening at 7:00PM on a youth publishing panel at our [ https://aadl.org/node/372786 | Emerging Writers workshop  ] in the evening if you are unable to attend this daytime event.

Older struggling readers are a unique student population. They face many different challenges. Dr. Virginia Loh-Hagan will share best practices and programming ideas that will motivate struggling readers to become striving readers. In addition, participants will learn what it's like to be a struggling reader and gain an insider perspective on writing for this population. All participants will walk away with some new strategies to implement with their students the very next day. This workshop will be broken into two sections - attending one hour will yield great information and the second hour will look more deeply into examples of appropriate book titles, delve into the process of writing non-fiction for these readers, plus opportunities to get in depth advice from Dr. Loh-Hagan .

Dr. Virginia Loh-Hagan is an author, educator, and curriculum designer. She is a faculty member at San Diego State University. Dr. Virginia Loh-Hagan is also a multi-published author; she has several books with Sleeping Bear Press, Cherry Lake Publishing/45th Parallel Press, StarWalk Media, and several academic publications about children and young adult literature with Guilford Press and various professional journals.
