DON'T stick to your "lane!"

Even though United for Libraries  has resources categorized for the groups it serves (Library Trustees, Friend Groups & Foundations), many of these resources can serve "double duty!"

Users are encouraged to peek behind the other buttons and see all of the resources available!

For example:

If your library is preparing for a millage campaign, United for Libraries has resources available within both the Friends and the Trustee sections. ALL of these materials may be of interest to BOTH Friends  and Trustees (AND Library Directors and staff)! These resources include:

Under the "Advocacy & Issues" button at the top of the screen is a link to the "Citizens-Save-Libraries-Power Guide<http://www.ala.org/united/powerguide>." This resource contains a wealth of information about millage campaigns including information, tips and sample documents from libraries who were successful in their millage campaigns. This resource is linked on BOTH Trustee and Friends & Foundation pages.

Advocacy & Public Awareness page<http://www.ala.org/united/trusteezone/advocacy> -  (NOTE: You will need the Username and Password provided by the Library of Michigan to access these materials). Multiple resources useful to millage campaigns.
Short Takes for Trustees<http://www.ala.org/united/training/short_takes/videos> (Video and resource materials on Advocacy) (NOTE - You will need the Username and Password provided by the Library of Michigan to access these materials).
Trustee Academy Courses<http://www.ala.org/united/training/trustee_academy/access> (specifically "Everyday Advocacy) (NOTE - you will need to login using the Michigan Statewide Access Username and Password)
Trustee Discussion Forum <http://www.ala.org/united/trusteezone/forum>  This is a method to reach out to other libraries across the country and ask how they do things.

Friends Page Resources
Friends and Foundations Fact Sheets<http://www.ala.org/united/friendszone/factsheets> ( In Friends and Foundations Zone - you will need to login using the  Michigan Statewide Access Username and Password ). There are several sheets discussing advocacy and fundraising - including one on the limits of campaign spending for Friend groups).
Idea Sharing - Outreach<http://www.ala.org/united/friends/ideasharing/outreach> - This feature provides information on how other Friends Groups work and help their libraries- the Outreach section has good ideas on working with the community and promote the library- great ideas for gaining support for a millage!
Friends Discussion Forum<http://www.ala.org/united/friends/forum> - Similar to the Trustee one, above - Facilitates engagement for Friends groups (and people working with friends groups so they can ask questions, get ideas and share.
