Director of the Strosacker Learning Commons
The Director of the Strosacker Learning Commons provides strategic leadership to facilitate the evolving role of the learning commons model to foster student success and instructional excellence. The Director of the Strosacker Learning Commons leads academic support functions including library services and tutoring serving the students, faculty, and staff of Northwood University (including undergraduate, graduate, residential, and distance learners). The Director integrates these key academic services; and is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, and assessing the resources and programming of the Learning Commons.
Key Responsibilities:

  *   Develop long-range plans for services, facilities, collections, and technological resources to meet the strategic goals of the University.
  *   Coordinate Learning Commons professional staff and operations.
  *   Hire, schedule, manage, train, and evaluate library employees.
  *   Manage the Learning Commons budget, including purchasing collections and online subscriptions.
  *   Coordinate library instruction programs and student success workshops in conjunction with the Director of the Timberwolf Learning Center. Work with library staff to promote, grow, and deliver course-integrated library instruction in multiple modalities.
  *   Convene the Library Advisory Board to gain stakeholder perspective on and priorities for Learning Commons programming and services.
  *   Work with faculty, students, and vendors to evaluate and select library resources in all formats using current collection development methods.
  *   Promote faculty engagement with the Library/Learning Commons services and curriculum.
  *   Develop and incorporate library resource guides and customized course material for student, staff, and faculty.
  *   Assess and evaluate library, collection, and learning commons use and provide feedback and insight on potential improvements to the Associate Academic Dean, Dean, and Chief Academic Officer
  *   Work with IT on maintaining the Library webpages and databases.
  *   Ensure appropriate locations and staffing of customer service points
  *   Other related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:

  *   M.L.S. degree (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program.
  *   Experience in an academic or Learning Commons Setting
  *   Familiarity with information resources in business, social sciences, and the humanities.
  *   Advanced database and web searching skills.
  *   Creative, energetic public service-orientation.
  *   Effective oral and written communication.
  *   Prior instructional experience preferred.
