The 2020 Census is around the proverbial corner and Michigan Libraries (as well as those that govern and support them!) have a MAJOR STAKE in ensuring an accurate population count since some of the primary funding sources for Public Libraries in Michigan rely on some form of population or census data to calculate payments. In addition, the demographic data that emanates from Census numbers is used by some State and Federal agencies and organizations to determine program and grant eligibility.  Even corporations use this data in considering where to locate new offices or facilities.  Accurate Census data can have big impacts on many aspects of a community - especially the public library (which is not only directly affected by the data, but is also often the gateway to the community ABOUT the data and its uses for business, jobs, social programs, etc.).

United for Libraries (the division of ALA devoted to Library Trustees and Friends) is conducting a webinar on the Census that is aimed specifically at Public Library Trustees and Friends groups.

Michigan's Statewide membership (sponsored by the Library of Michigan using funds from the Institute for Library & Museum Services (ILMS) & The Library Services & Technology Act (LSTA)) enables FREE ACCESS to this Webinar for ALL Michigan Libraries, Trustees and Friends Groups.
