The American Library Association (ALA) selected "The Great Believers," by Rebecca Makkai, published by Viking, as the winner of the 2019 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and "Heavy: An American Memoir," by Kiese Laymon, published by Scribner, as the winner of the 2019 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction. 2019 Over the Rainbow List released, over 100 fiction and non-fiction titles
<http://bit.ly/2WzBw30>The Over the Rainbow Booklist Committee of the American Library Association's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Round Table (GLBTRT) considered 469 books this year, 284 fiction and 185 nonfiction titles. After careful reading, wide-ranging discussion, and due deliberation, the final Booklist consists of 50 fiction titles in five categories (Short Stories, Poetry, Literacy and General Interest [combined], Graphic, and Genre [all genres]) and 54 nonfiction titles in four categories (Academic, Memoirs/Biographies, History, and General Interest). The American Library Association (ALA) and Google launched a national tour of libraries as part of the Grow with Google initiative. The Grow with Google tour will consist of free, one-day events hosted at local libraries in cities and towns across the country, where Grow with Google experts will deliver in-person workshops for job seekers, small businesses, and library staff. The American Library Association (ALA) and Dollar General Literacy Foundation have announced 16 U.S. public libraries to receive 2019 American Dream Literacy Initiative grants, $10,000 awards to expand services for adult English language learners or adults in need of basic education and workforce development.
