The Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) is pleased to announce that after working with Greenwood/Asher and Associates to conduct a comprehensive nationwide search, Scott Garrison has been selected as the next MCLS Executive Director, effective March 4, 2019, succeeding current Executive Director Randy Dykhuis, who retires March 29.

Garrison is currently Dean of the Ferris Library for Information, Technology and Education at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. He holds a Master of Library Science from the University of California, Los Angeles as well as additional education from Harvard University’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education and also the University of California, Los Angeles’ Senior Fellows Program in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with MCLS’s excellent and dedicated staff, visionary Board of Directors, and many vendors and other current and potential partners, to serve over 650 member libraries of all types in Indiana and Michigan,” Garrison said. “MCLS will continue facilitating collaboration and providing connections, tools, training, and more to support libraries as they continue forward in serving all citizens at different moments throughout their lives.”

MCLS Board President Edra Waterman, Director of the Hamilton East Public Library in Noblesville, Indiana, cited Garrison’s familiarity with multi-type libraries in Indiana and Michigan and his previous experience serving on the MCLS Board, most recently as Vice President, as major factors in his selection. “Scott’s deep knowledge of our consortial environment and his vision for how MCLS can engage all libraries across our region were compelling, and we are looking forward to working with him in his new role.”

“On behalf of the MCLS Board,” Waterman continued, “I would like to thank our members, the MCLS staff, the Search Committee, and Board members for their participation in the search process. In particular, I’d like to thank Randy Dykhuis for his 23 years of service and wish him the best in his retirement.”
