Good morning,

I am thrilled to share that our operating millage for the Harrison District Library passed overwhelmingly yesterday. Our millage request was 1 of 3 in our county and the only one to pass. Voters turned out on a special election and supported funding the library for the next 10 years.

Yes ? 337
No ? 146

It is truly a great day!!!

Community discovery is a process of forging vital and ongoing connection between the library and its community members. The more people are involved in planning and programming, the more they are invested in the success of the library. While many libraries collect community input primarily through surveys, there are other, more interactive and interpersonal tools that can uncover the heart and aspirations of the community. Explore tools and strategies that start meaningful conversations and foster collaborative engagement on everything from strategic and space planning to programming. Learn how you can join your library and your community at the heart.

We have way too many used padded envelopes of all sizes. We do not have
boxes big enough to send them all but if you would like some let me know.
We don't want them in the trash but any left at the end of the week are
going away.

We are down to only small size #2 padded envelopes and they are the roughly
treated ones. We have been using them but they are not pretty.

A professor has inquired about free or very-low-cost textbooks for an
introductory computer science class. I'd like to suggest to her some good
sources for open educational resources she could browse and evaluate. What
sources does the hive mind of MichLib-L suggest?

Thanks in advance for any information. I am interested in any good sources
of OER, not just computer science, although the latter is the subject of
the immediate inquiry.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR-LEXINGTON (KY) PUBLIC LIBRARY

Shimmer - Shout - Shine - Shape the Lexington Public Library<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lexpublib.org%2F&data=02%7C01%7Creading%40monroe.lib.mi.us%7C3f1537cb6e81462c695e08d6d49783c0%7C526ff4e31ba7453c9fb17562147081dd%7C0%7C0%7C636930144648323034&sdata=UH2MkMfLsG3mk%2BZlCWcqSqBVV%2B%2B9wU5FAy1XTI5YU1s%3D&reserved=0> (LPL) as the next Executive Director. The successful candidate will lead this pioneering and dynamic Library serving the 322,000 residents of the City of Lexington and Fayette County, KY through its six locations and its virtual services. The seven member Board of Trustees seeks an inspired and gifted Executive Director, who will continue the Library's stellar programs while developing and implementing new service models. With a committed, innovative staff, an annual $17 million operating budget, a strong Library Foundation, and a supportive Friends of the Library, the Lexington Public Library strives for greatness in serving its diverse communities of the city and the county. LPL's strategic focus areas are: Inclusion, Education, Access, Space, Culture, and Stewardship. Key opportunities going forward are implementation of a new Master Facilities plan, continuing to build on existing su!
ccessful external partnerships, working closely with local and state officials and agencies, focusing on fundraising and development opportunities, and mentoring and supporting excellent staff through formal and informal staff development programs. LPL welcomes an Executive Director who understands, supports, and participates in a thoughtful, intentional change management approach to library services and programs.

The affordable Bluegrass region is unique and residents enjoy a variety of educational opportunities, health care choices, family activities, arts and culture, business, and a strong economy. Lexington is well regarded as a top community for home buyers, families, high-tech start-ups, retirement, and college students. Over the past several years, Lexington has seen streetscape improvements to new and enhanced bike and walking trails, to many hospital expansions, to a rapidly-growing high-tech sector. There is an emerging technology scene and an entrepreneurial spirit drawing young people who want to live here and raise families. The public school system is impressive and the city is home to the University of Kentucky, Transylvania University, and the Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Lexington is on the move and the city you are experiencing today is!
far different than that of even a decade ago. The gracious Bluegrass City is full of charm and hospitality-traditionally southern with a Midwest flavor. It is an experience like none other and you'll just decide to stay.
