There's still room for you on our Hudson River Valley Tour this July.

The Hudson River Valley offers visitors vast scenes of natural beauty, rich
culture, and fascinating history. Several key battles of the American
Revolutionary War took place in the region centuries ago, and in more recent
history, countless painters from across the United States and around the
globe have found artistic inspiration in the valley's brilliant scenery.
Join the Historical Society of Michigan's "Michiganders on the RoadT" for
our 9-day, 8-night Painters and Patriots: Hudson River Valley Tour from July
12 to July 20, 2019.

James Oliver Curwood

Owosso-native author and conservationist James Oliver Curwood was one of the
world's highest-paid and most widely read authors of the twentieth
century-but he never lost his love for Michigan. Born on June 12, 1878,
Curwood spent his formative years in Owosso before adjusting to a wandering
lifestyle as an adventurer and explorer, frequently visiting Alaska and the
Canadian Northwest. That love of adventure lead him to write several popular
adventure novels, including Kazan (1914), The Grizzly King (1916), and The
River's End (1919).

By 1922, Curwood's success as a writer and remarkable wealth allowed him to
build an eighteenth-century, French-style chateau in his hometown of Owosso,
which he named Curwood Castle. Curwood's legacy lives on today. His Owosso
writing studio, Curwood Castle, currently serves as a museum, and the city
of Owosso hosts a Curwood Festival each year to celebrate the area's
heritage.
