Background
The Charlevoix Public Library seeks a dynamic, creative and motivated individual as Director. Charlevoix is located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Round Lake and Lake Charlevoix in Northern Michigan.  Located in close proximity to Petoskey, Boyne City and Traverse City, Charlevoix offers many cultural historical and recreational venues and opportunities year-round.

The library, considered by many as the" living room of the community", serves 9600 residents and a growing summer tourist population.  It employs twenty professional and paraprofessional staff. The successful candidate will be an approachable, competent and innovative leader with a penchant for community relations, understands the value of internal and external customer service and can lead the library in exciting and innovative ways.

Key Expectations
The library director provides the institutional leadership and public persona of the organization reporting to the Board of Trustees. The director works in partnership with the board to ensure the organization fulfills its mission and creates strategies that guarantee its future success. The director is accountable for the programmatic and fiscal integrity of the organization in keeping with the philosophy set by the Board of Trustees. The library director works with considerable independence subject to board policies and directives but is expected to demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, creativity and mature judgment in the performance of duties.

Qualifications

*         A Master of Library Science Degree

*         Librarians Permanent Professional Certificate (or qualify for one)

*         Minimum of five years' experience in an increasingly responsible supervisory and or administrative position

*         Substantial experience in public services

*         Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with staff and with Trustees.

This position will include some evening and weekends hours.
Beginning Salary Range is $60,000 - $70,000 negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
