What Fred Rogers Would Say About “the Difference We Make”- How Simple, Everyday Interactions in Early Childhood Are Critical<https://www.earlychildhoodwebinars.com/webinars/the-difference-we-make-appreciating-simple-everyday-interactions-in-early-childhood/>
by Dana Winters, Ph.D. and Junlei Li, Ph.D.

In 1983, Fred Rogers delivered his first keynote address for the National Association for the Education of Young Children, where he asked the audience, “Do you ever wonder if you have made a difference?” More than three decades later, that question continues to resonate among many early childhood educators.
This webinar<https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/5726179991648751873> is a reflection and discussion of what it means to make a difference in today’s early care and education contexts. Presenters Dana Winters, Ph.D.<https://www.earlychildhoodwebinars.com/presenters/winters-dana/>, from the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children’s Media, and Junlei Li, Ph.D.<https://www.earlychildhoodwebinars.com/presenters/li-junlei/>, from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will discuss:
* What does making a difference look like in simple, everyday teacher-child interactions?
* What enhances or limits our ability to recognize the impact we make?
* How do we help each other to appreciate and grow the kind of practices that make a positive impact on children and families?
The discussion is based and informed on their collaborative work on “Simple Interactions<https://www.simpleinteractions.org/>”, a practice-based, strength-focused, and community- driven approach to appreciate and strengthen the quality of human interactions across developmental contexts, particularly in early care and education.
Can’t participate in our webinars at the appointed time? Never fear! All of the webinars are recorded. To view the recording, simply register now<https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/5726179991648751873> and you will receive an email with a link to the recording when it is ready to be viewed.

Diverse Book Finders is an amazing (free) tool that will provide an analysis of existing collections to determine the degree of diversity present for children's books. The free webinar will take place on October 8, 2019. Please share if you know of school librarians/children's librarians in need of strategic planning for increasing the diversity in their collections. http://maine.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?EventId=5199<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmaine.evanced.info%2Fsignup%2FEventDetails%3FEventId%3D5199&data=02%7C01%7CLancasterC5%40michigan.gov%7Ce3acdc69a8ea426c22a908d748d44fa6%7Cd5fb7087377742ad966a892ef47225d1%7C0%7C1%7C637057949012804674&sdata=wANRVVQWoKtEIYjGX2743WWP6CucDy1hzDv2eq3eXNQ%3D&reserved=0>
Do you feel it is important to have a diverse children's collection, but don't always know where to start?
Join the Diverse BookFinder as we walk you through how to use our new Collection Analysis Tool (CAT), specifically designed to help you diversify your picture book collection! This free, online resource allows you to upload a single file and get a snapshot of who is represented -- and how -- in your collection. The CAT is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and will go live on October 1st. Participants will learn how to use the CAT and how to use the resulting report in combination with the Diverse BookFinder Search Tool to drive collection-based decisions. Finally, we will discuss the role of librarians in carefully reviewing books to build authentic and inclusive library collections that counter bias and promote cultural pluralism. http://maine.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?EventId=5199<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmaine.evanced.info%2Fsignup%2FEventDetails%3FEventId%3D5199&data=02%7C01%7CLancasterC5%40michigan.gov%7Ce3acdc69a8ea426c22a908d748d44fa6%7Cd5fb7087377742ad966a892ef47225d1%7C0%7C1%7C637057949012814661&sdata=E6E1VhyAi%2Bd4EdnJiEDGfYC74%2F6PYqbW7NUS6EdH3Ws%3D&reserved=0>
