[Michlib-l] Policy Question - Retirement

Hi, Amber,

Would be risky to promise to pay retiree health care directly from the library’s operating budget not knowing what health care costs will be in the future. We have a Health Savings Account for staff and put in money each year. Once the employee retires, they can use it to purchase or supplement their health insurance or pay health costs. If you want, you can set up the HSA so that staff can also add money to it. You need a benefits expert to explain all the options with HSAs but this might be an option to explore.

Does your library pay for a retirees health insurance (if they have worked at the library a set amount of time)?
Thanks!
