YALSA
2020 YALSA YA Services Symposium to be Held Virtually
In response to the current public health climate, YALSA's Board of Directors have decided that the in-person symposium<http://www.ala.org/yalsa/yasymposium> scheduled to take place November 6 - 8, 2020, in Reno will shift to a virtual event. Virtual Art Club Program Idea
It's summer learning season, which used to be peak programming season for many of us, but with the quarantine, in-library programs have been canceled for the unforeseeable future. Check out how you can turn your in-library art club into a virtual art club<http://hq.yalsa.net/programs/index.html>. This is an unprecedented time and many teen library workers are seeking help with virtual and summer learning programming. If you are doing some innovative virtual programs or have a summer learning program you'd like to share, please consider submitting<http://hq.yalsa.net/programs/share.html> to the Teen Programming HQ<http://hq.yalsa.net/index.html>.

Project READY: Reimaging Equity and Access for Diverse Youth<http://ready.web.unc.edu/> is a free online curriculum course with 27 self-paced modules.
The Project READY curriculum addresses the gap in existing professional development opportunities for youth services library staff. The curriculum aims to do the following:

  * introduce youth services library staff to research in areas such as race and racism, critical theory, and culturally responsive or sustaining pedagogy.
  * establish a shared understanding of foundational concepts and issues related to race, racism, and racial equity.
  * encourage self-reflection related to race and racial identity for both white and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) library staff in public and school libraries.
  * amplify the work of practitioners and scholars who are providing inclusive and culturally responsive services for youth of color and Indigenous youth.
  * provide concrete strategies for creating and/or improving library programs and services for Black youth, Indigenous youth, and children and teens of color.

Wednesday, June 24, 2:00 PM
One of the major barriers to dismantling institutional racism is a lack of effective vocabulary, analysis, and principles. Libraries have the potential to be at the forefront of efforts to dismantle racism in our country.
Tobin Miller Shearer, PhD, introduces you to training on field-tested and research-based concepts you can use to address both issues of institutional racism in your own organization and in the communities to which you connect and serve.
If you're interested, but not able to attend the live webinar, go ahead and register. Niche Academy will send a recording to all registrants after the fact.
